Everett’s measaure to allow in-state tuition for military dependents passes committee
DENVER—Today, the House Education committee passed state Rep. Justin Everett’s measure to provide in-state tuition to all dependents of military members including spouses of military servicemen and women.  

Every day, the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families must make sacrifices in the defense of freedom and opportunity,” Everett said. “Their sacrifice should be rewarded with new opportunity including help with affording higher education. 

Colorado law already provides in-state tuition to dependents of military members who are stationed in Colorado who graduated from a Colorado high school and who enroll in a college or university within twelve months of their graduation. House Bill 1194 expands access to in-state tuition rates to all military dependents, including spouses.

“We have a responsibility and owe a debt of gratitude to every member of the Armed Forces,” said Everett, R-Littleton. “Helping military families afford higher education invests in future success and will make our state stronger.”

The bill now moves to the House Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
